It’s the harmony that makes the difference
Although barbershop singing is usually thought of as an American
musical genre, it is alive and well in many European countries, not
least the UK.
‘Barbershop in Harmony’ is a unique collaboration
between three organisations, representing about 6,000 singers in
England, Wales and Scotland, to promote our art form, and to
encourage more people to experience the pleasure that singing with
others can bring.
Men and women, girls and boys, indeed anyone of almost any age can sing unaccompanied
close harmony in the barbershop style. Our members range from children in junior
schools to some who have passed their 90th birthdays, it really is a hobby that is suitable for everyone. We cater for a very wide range of musical abilities, from those who compose
and arrange music to those, the majority, who don’t read music at all, but learn their notes
by listening to CDs. If you enjoy singing, or would like to find out whether you might do
so, why not find out more by following the links on the menu?
